I think it is time for the whole Uni system to be reviewed. It certainly doesn’t represent value for money, and contact time is minimal for the fee level. The cost to live at Uni is high, and I think the value is questionable. Quite frequently graduates still start at the bottom of industry, so you wonder where they would be if they had already been working for 3 years? Most people seem to agree that a Uni course could be condensed into 2 years.

Mrs. Rabbit – my two eldest did two-year music degrees, one at ACM (part of the Uni of Middlesex and the other at BIMM, part of the Uni of Sussex) with very little time in the holidays, maybe just 2 weeks for Christmas and Easter and 4 weeks in the summer. A much better system in my opinion. Less debt and less of a chance that they get bored and want to give up! What horrifies me most is the debt that the kids are clocking up at uni – it is not unusual to hear of them owing £35,000…I have heard that if they do not earn enough for so many years, then they do not need to pay it back. As soon as they are earning a certain level, it will be automatically taken from their monthly salaries.

I usually like brownies, but on this occasion decided against as the sweetie jar was only half full when I tipped the ashes into the sea. The packet of self raising flour was still full in the cupboard!
